After having the privilege of interviewing PJ and Roy Hirabayashi, who are the founders of San Jose Taiko, I found out some exciting news:
“We have been working as part of the host committee to bring the 8th biennial North American Taiko Conference at Stanford on August 18-21.  We are expecting over 700 people at the conference from across the US and from Canada, Brazil, UK, Japan and Hong Kong.  We are amazed at the growth of taiko. As part of the conference, there is the Taiko Jam concert on Aug 20 at Memorial Auditorium that is open to the public. We can use some help to advertise for this concert that will feature 5 great US-based taiko groups. The following is the link to the Taiko Conference. https://www.taikoconference.org/

So please spread the word and attend the concert!
And, congratulations to San Jose Taiko for being awarded the National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship. They will be going to Washington DC in September to receive the award and will perform in a concert with the other 7 Heritage Fellows that have been selected this year. Here is the web link to the award  http://www.nea.gov/honors/heritage/index.html
